1,151 Mines in Yemen Are Cleared in a Week by KSRelief's Masam Project

KSRelief's Masam Project cleared 1,151 mines in the first week of January 2025, including 32 anti-tank mines, 1,115 unexploded ordnances, and four explosive devices, contributing to civilian safety in Yemen.

Aden, January 7, 2025 – The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's (KSRelief) Masam Project has made significant strides in its ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of Yemen's citizens by clearing landmines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) from conflict-affected areas. In the first week of January 2025 alone, the Masam team successfully cleared 1,151 mines, demonstrating the project’s continued commitment to alleviating the risks posed by these deadly remnants of war.

Among the mines cleared were 32 anti-tank mines, 1,115 unexploded ordnances, and four explosive devices. These hazardous remnants of conflict not only pose a grave danger to civilian lives but also hinder the return of displaced families and the rebuilding of infrastructure in Yemen. By removing these dangerous explosives, the Masam Project is playing a crucial role in restoring safety to communities and facilitating the safe movement of people and goods in affected regions.

Since its inception, the Masam Project has achieved a significant milestone by clearing a total of 477,583 landmines and explosive devices that were indiscriminately planted across various regions of Yemen. These mines have been responsible for numerous casualties, particularly among vulnerable populations, including children, women, and the elderly. The project’s tireless efforts have saved countless lives and are instrumental in ensuring the long-term recovery of Yemen's communities from the devastating effects of conflict.

KSRelief’s Masam Project is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader humanitarian efforts to address the aftermath of the ongoing conflict in Yemen. By providing life-saving assistance, including demining operations, KSRelief aims to create a safer environment where displaced individuals can return to their homes and communities can begin to rebuild. The success of the Masam Project highlights the Kingdom's commitment to humanitarian relief and its determination to assist Yemen in its recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Through its work, the Masam Project continues to demonstrate the importance of international collaboration in addressing the complex and long-lasting consequences of armed conflict, and remains a vital tool in the ongoing fight for peace and stability in Yemen.
