Cairo, October 3, 2023, The 12th session of the Technical Committee for Arab Rules of Origin commenced today at the Arab League headquarters. The committee, led by Abdulaziz Al-Mughira, an Advisor at the Saudi Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority and head of the Saudi Technical Negotiation Team for the rules of origin, has drawn participation from 18 Arab countries and members of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA).
Dr. Bahgat Abu Al-Nasr, Director of the Arab Economic Integration Department at the Arab League, outlined the agenda for the three-day meeting, which focuses on activating origin cumulation within GAFTA, in line with member states' proposals and visions.
Furthermore, participants at the meeting are set to conclude the review of the general provisions governing the Arab rules of origin for Arab goods. This topic remains a recurring agenda item, with 90% of the review already completed. The remaining aspects will be discussed before they are presented to the Economic and Social Council for consideration.
