18-year-old Omar Nada wins historic bronze at 19th Asian Games

HANGZHOU — In a remarkable feat, 18-year-old Saudi Jiu-Jitsu talent, Omar Nada, has achieved a historic bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, becoming the youngest athlete in the Saudi delegation to do so.


Nada's outstanding performance not only contributes to Saudi Arabia's growing medal count but also solidifies his position as the youngest Saudi athlete ever to claim a medal in the Games' history.


His path to the podium featured impressive victories against international competitors, ultimately culminating in a third-place finish in the 85kg category. Nada secured his bronze medal with a victory over Abdulrahman Haj from Kyrgyzstan in the third-place playoff.


Nada's journey towards the bronze medal began with a commanding 12-0 win over Rahim Khudof from Tajikistan, ranked 40th globally, in the round of 32. He then defeated Rassul Israilov from Kazakhstan with a score of 3-0 in the round of 16.


In the quarterfinals, Nada secured victory against Rassul Sajdivev from Kyrgyzstan, winning on an advantage after a 0-0 draw, earning him a spot in the semifinals where he faced a 0-2 defeat against the UAE's Faisal Al-Ketbi.


In a parallel competition, Saudi karate athlete Faraj Al-Nasheri concluded his participation in the Games, facing a loss to Jordan's Mohammad Al-Jaffar in the round of 16 in the 84kg category, with a final score of 5-1.
