Tunis, March 1, 2025 – In a significant milestone for Saudi Arabia’s support of Tunisia’s social development, Saudi Ambassador to Tunisia Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Saqr, alongside Tunisian Minister of Equipment and Housing Sarah Zaafrani, today oversaw the delivery of 330 new housing units in the Ben Arous governorate, located to the south of Tunis. These units are part of an ambitious housing project aimed at addressing Tunisia’s pressing need for social housing and improving the living conditions of its citizens.

This initiative is part of the larger housing project funded by the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), which is helping to facilitate the delivery of a total of 4,715 social housing units across several governorates in Tunisia. The first phase, which includes the 330 units in Ben Arous, marks a significant step forward, and is supported by a generous concessional loan from the SFD, amounting to $150 million. This financial contribution underscores Saudi Arabia's ongoing commitment to supporting sustainable development and improving the quality of life in Tunisia.

During the ceremony, Tunisian Minister Zaafrani expressed profound gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, highlighting the vital role that the SFD’s funding and support have played in advancing crucial infrastructure projects in Tunisia. She emphasized the long-standing partnership between the two nations and the importance of the Kingdom’s unwavering assistance to Tunisia’s growth and development.

In his address, Saudi Ambassador Dr. Al-Saqr extended heartfelt congratulations to the families who would benefit from these new homes, stressing that the delivery of these housing units represents a tangible step toward improving the living standards of Tunisian citizens. He reiterated that the Kingdom's support for Tunisia goes beyond just economic aid, underscoring its dedication to initiatives that contribute to the well-being of the Tunisian people, particularly in sectors such as housing and health.

The housing project is a key example of Saudi Arabia’s broader vision to foster regional stability and prosperity, in line with its ongoing humanitarian assistance and development programs. The SFD has long been instrumental in facilitating development projects in various countries, including Tunisia, and this initiative is further proof of the Kingdom’s dedication to improving the livelihoods of its neighbors.

The delivery of these 330 housing units not only reflects the close ties between Saudi Arabia and Tunisia but also showcases the Kingdom’s commitment to using its resources to promote sustainable development, create opportunities, and improve the welfare of communities in need. With the successful completion of this phase, further progress is expected in the coming months, as the overall housing project moves closer to its full realization.
