Shanghai, December 23, 2024 – Folk Maritime Services Company (Folk Maritime), a key subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) that specializes in regular shipping lines and feeder vessels, has announced the signing of a strategic partnership with Shanghai CIMC Yangshan Logistics Equipment Co., Ltd. The agreement marks a significant step in Folk Maritime’s expansion efforts and its commitment to advancing Saudi Arabia’s position in global shipping and logistics. Under the terms of the agreement, Folk Maritime will receive 5,600 state-of-the-art maritime shipping containers, including 4,500 20-foot multipurpose containers and 1,100 40-foot high-cube containers, to enhance its operational capabilities.

The new containers are a part of Folk Maritime’s broader strategy to modernize and expand its fleet, aligning with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals of fostering a more sustainable and technologically advanced economy. All 5,600 containers are fully recyclable, reflecting Folk Maritime’s commitment to environmental responsibility and its support for Saudi Arabia’s long-term sustainability objectives. By incorporating green practices into its operations, Folk Maritime is helping to reduce the environmental footprint of global shipping while positioning itself as a leader in responsible logistics.

In addition to their eco-friendly design, the new containers are equipped with cutting-edge technologies, further enhancing Folk Maritime’s competitive edge. The containers will feature the latest Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring systems, which will be implemented across the company’s dry container fleet. These advanced systems will provide real-time location tracking, improving operational efficiency and enhancing security. With the ability to monitor the status and whereabouts of each container at all times, the company can optimize its routes through trade corridors, reduce delays, and ensure faster, more reliable delivery times.

This technological leap is part of a larger effort by Folk Maritime to streamline its logistics operations, minimize risks, and increase the overall productivity of its shipping lines. The integration of IoT technology not only supports Folk Maritime’s operational needs but also aligns with global trends towards smarter, more connected supply chains. By harnessing the power of real-time data and advanced monitoring, Folk Maritime aims to enhance its service offerings and maintain a competitive edge in the global maritime industry.

The agreement with Shanghai CIMC Yangshan Logistics Equipment Co., Ltd. further strengthens the strategic collaboration between Saudi Arabia and China in the logistics and trade sectors. It also underscores Folk Maritime’s pivotal role in bolstering Saudi Arabia’s maritime infrastructure, which is critical to the Kingdom’s economic diversification efforts. As part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, these initiatives aim to transform the country into a global logistics hub, improving its connectivity and expanding its trade and shipping operations worldwide.

With the addition of these advanced, recyclable containers to its fleet, Folk Maritime is poised to play an even more significant role in Saudi Arabia’s expanding logistics industry.
