
Tunis, March 23, 2025 – Fifty-three Islamic countries, members of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), have unanimously approved the Riyadh Charter for Artificial Intelligence in the Islamic World.
The charter, announced at the Global AI Summit organized by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA) in Riyadh in September 2024, is seen as a milestone in creating a shared ethical and strategic AI framework for the Islamic world.
The approval took place during the 45th session of the ICESCO Executive Council in Tunisia, attended by all member states and with the participation of SDAIA.
The session focused on the Riyadh Charter, which serves as a comprehensive strategic framework for AI technology development in line with Islamic values, promoting sustainable development, and enhancing international collaboration in the field.
ICESCO member states reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening AI governance and fostering the responsible adoption of AI across the Islamic world.
Dr. Kais Hammami, Director of the ICESCO Center of Foresight and Artificial Intelligence, presented the charter, outlining its key pillars and strategic objectives. He highlighted the importance of the charter in guiding AI development to benefit the shared interests of Islamic countries.
