The 5th World Media Summit (WMS) commenced its proceedings on Sunday in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, southern China, operating under the theme "Boosting Global Confidence, Promoting Media Development."
Represented by its President, Dr. Fahd bin Hassan Al Aqran, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) actively participated in the summit. Dr. Abdullah bin Abiyah, the Saudi Consul General in Guangzhou, was also in attendance.
During the summit's opening, Fu Hua, the Executive Chairman of WMS and President of Xinhua News Agency, urged media outlets to build consensus, enhance confidence in development, and uphold objectivity and truth to bolster media credibility. He emphasized the importance of deepening exchanges and collaboration, contributing to the creation of a world characterized by lasting peace, universal security, and shared prosperity.
Participants engaged in discussions on various topics, including "Boosting Confidence: The Role of Media in Enhancing Human Development and Security," "Adapting to Changes: Media Response to Global Challenges," "New Technological Opportunities and Challenges," "Innovative Leadership: New Media Markets in the Digital Age," and "Striving for Growth: Global Collaboration for Media towards a Better Future." These discussions aimed to explore ways for the media industry to address global challenges.
The summit, co-hosted by Xinhua News Agency and the provincial governments of Guangdong and Yunnan, will continue until December 8 in the cities of Guangzhou and Kunming. The event has drawn the participation of 450 delegates representing 101 countries, with news agencies from the Kingdom of Bahrain, the State of Kuwait, and the State of Qatar taking part in the opening sessions.
