A Course on 'Protecting Health Care from Violence' is Held by Joint Forces Command


Training Launch: Under the patronage of Lieutenant General Mutlaq bin Salem Al-Azima, the Civil-Military Operations Department of the Joint Forces, in collaboration with the ICRC, launched a two-day training course on "Protecting Health Care from Violence" at the Southern Region Command in Khamis Mushait and the Jazan Force.



Course Focus: The training covers key topics including the distinction between international humanitarian law and human rights law, strategies for protecting health care from violence, and ICRC guidelines for armed forces.


Commitment to Protection: Major General Mohammed bin Ali Al-Omari emphasized the course’s impact, while Major General Pilot Abdullah bin Dakhil Al-Hababi reaffirmed the Arab Coalition Forces’ commitment to supporting legitimacy in Yemen and cooperating with the ICRC to protect civilians in conflict zones.


Riyadh, August 19, 2024 — Under the esteemed patronage of Lieutenant General Mutlaq bin Salem Al-Azima, Commander of the Joint Forces, the Civil-Military Operations Department of the Joint Forces has launched a significant training course in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). This course, titled "Protecting Health Care from Violence," commenced today and is being conducted at two key locations: the Southern Region Command headquarters in Khamis Mushait and the Jazan Force. The training is set to span two days, reflecting a focused effort to address crucial issues related to the safety of health care services in conflict zones.



The course aims to bolster the capabilities of military personnel in safeguarding health care services from violence, an increasingly pertinent issue in areas affected by conflict. Key topics covered in the training include the differentiation between international humanitarian law and international human rights law, effective strategies for shielding health care facilities from violence, and the specific guidelines issued to armed forces regarding these matters. The ICRC’s contributions are integral to the course, offering specialized insights into protection activities and best practices in preserving the integrity of health care services amidst conflict.


Major General Mohammed bin Ali Al-Omari, Commander of the Southern Region, underscored the importance of these training programs. He highlighted their profound impact on enhancing the operational effectiveness of forces engaged in protecting health care infrastructure, thus reinforcing the commitment to humanitarian principles and the protection of civilian life.



In addition, Major General Pilot Abdullah bin Dakhil Al-Hababi, Director of Civil-Military Operations for the Joint Forces, emphasized the Arab Coalition Forces' steadfast commitment to supporting legitimacy in Yemen. He reiterated the Coalition’s dedication to collaborating with the ICRC to ensure that civilians in conflict zones are adequately protected. This partnership aims to strengthen efforts to safeguard health care services and uphold humanitarian standards, reflecting a broader commitment to ethical conduct and the protection of vulnerable populations in conflict-affected areas.
