Riyadh, March 28, 2025: The National Center for the Development of Vegetation Cover and the Fight against Desertification has launched the Agroforestry Action Plan Development Project, which aims to promote environmental sustainability, social development and economic progress.
The project assesses agroforestry conditions, implements global best practices, and encourages investment in sustainable forest management, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The project is in line with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, which focuses on environmental sustainability and addressing desertification, SPA added.
As part of the program, the center will activate its December 2024 agreement with the Center for International Forestry Research and the World Agroforestry Center to strengthen research cooperation and adopt advanced agroforestry methods.
The project aims to restore land, expand vegetation, protect ecosystems and reduce carbon emissions. It also aims to enhance resilient forest ecosystems and improve forest areas across the Kingdom.
In addition, the center is also promoting sustainable forestry efforts, with plans to plant 60 million trees and restore 300,000 hectares of forestland by 2030.
