Record Passenger Traffic and Operational Excellence: King Khalid International Airport saw over 37 million passengers in 2024 and achieved an impressive 86% on-time departure rate, reflecting operational efficiency and growth.

Riyadh, January 4, 2025 – King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), managed and operated by Riyadh Airports Company, has emerged as a shining example of excellence in the aviation sector, recording exceptional growth and operational achievements in 2024. With the continued expansion of Saudi Arabia’s air travel infrastructure, KKIA has solidified its position as a vital hub for both domestic and international travel, playing a key role in supporting the Kingdom’s broader economic ambitions.

In 2024, the airport saw a significant surge in passenger traffic, with more than 37 million passengers passing through its terminals over the course of the year. This remarkable increase is a clear indication of the growing demand for air travel in the region, fueled by both business and leisure travel, as well as the Kingdom's expanding tourism sector. KKIA's strategic location, modern facilities, and expanding network of routes have made it an essential gateway to Saudi Arabia, connecting Riyadh to the world.

One of the standout achievements of 2024 was the airport's exceptional on-time departure performance, which led the industry with an impressive 86% on-time departure rate. This performance highlights the operational efficiency of the airport, underpinned by a series of strategic initiatives designed to streamline airport operations, enhance passenger experience, and improve the overall flight experience. The airport’s commitment to operational excellence was reflected in its ability to handle high volumes of passengers without compromising punctuality, setting a new benchmark for airports in the region.

A key factor in the airport’s success has been its expansion of services and facilities. In 2024, King Khalid International Airport welcomed 15 new airline partners, expanding its flight network and offering passengers more connectivity options. This growth in airline partnerships was complemented by the opening of five new duty-free areas and the launch of 29 new retail outlets. These additions included a wide range of services, from pharmacies and relaxation lounges to cafes and restaurants, designed to enhance the passenger experience and cater to the diverse needs of travelers.

The airport's ability to handle increased passenger traffic was put to the test on several occasions, with notable milestones including August 1, 2024, when more than 131,000 passengers passed through the airport in a single day, setting a new record. Additionally, June 13, 2024, saw a remarkable operational achievement, with 903 flights successfully arriving and departing from KKIA, demonstrating the airport's capacity to manage complex flight schedules during peak periods.

In total, King Khalid International Airport served 269,000 flights in 2024, connecting Riyadh to 113 domestic and international destinations. This extensive flight network has solidified KKIA's status as a global aviation hub, linking Saudi Arabia to major cities across the world and facilitating both business and leisure travel to and from the Kingdom.

Reflecting on the airport’s achievements, Ayman Abdulaziz AboAbah, CEO of Riyadh Airports Company, emphasized that the airport’s growth is a direct result of its commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence. He noted that these milestones are not only a testament to the airport’s efficiency and capacity but also underscore its pivotal role in supporting the Kingdom's broader Vision 2030 goals. By enhancing infrastructure, expanding services, and increasing connectivity, King Khalid International Airport is helping to drive economic growth, promote tourism, and position Riyadh as a leading global city.

As Saudi Arabia continues its transformation into a global tourism and business hub, King Khalid International Airport will remain at the forefront of the nation’s aviation sector, contributing significantly to the Kingdom’s economic diversification and its strategic aspirations on the world stage. With its ambitious plans for future expansion and continued investment in technology and infrastructure, KKIA is poised to play an even more crucial role in shaping the future of air travel in the region.
