A Year After Unification, in 1352 AH, Saudi Arabia Boasts Asphalt Roads

Riyadh, September 22, 2024, According to the Roads General Authority (RGA), in 1352 AH, only a year after the Kingdom's unification, Saudi Arabia was having asphalt roads, an achievement that underscores the unwavering commitment to achieving comprehensive development and connectivity the Saudi leadership has always had, dating back to the era of the founder King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman.

According to an RGA report issued on the occasion of the country’s 94th National Day, before the introduction of asphalt roads, transportation in Saudi Arabia was hindered by gravel and sand pathways. The advent of asphalt paved the way for economic and commercial growth, strengthening the ties between cities and regions across the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia's extensive road network, now exceeding 73,000 kilometers, has earned it global recognition for being the world's leader in road connectivity, as acknowledged by the Global Competitiveness Report.
