Riyadh, April 16, 2024, The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has announced the postponement of the highly anticipated match between Al Ain of the United Arab Emirates and Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia for 24 hours. The decision was made due to adverse weather conditions, impacting the scheduled AFC Champions League semi-finals match, initially set to take place at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in Al Ain.
In a statement released on its official website, the AFC clarified that the postponement was necessitated by the prevailing weather conditions affecting the region. Originally slated for an 8:00 pm UAE time kickoff, the match was rescheduled following directives from UAE authorities, who suspended all football activities on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of fans, players, and all stakeholders involved.
The match has been rescheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, maintaining the same venue and kickoff time. The decision aligns with the UAE government's response to a strong storm accompanied by heavy rainfall since Monday, prompting measures such as remote work and study arrangements for employees and students, as well as the postponement of scheduled activities by sports federations on Tuesday.
