Al-Dar'i Neighborhood in Dumat Al-Jandal reflects ancient history and rich heritage

Sakaka, December 17, 2023, Situated in the heart of Dumat Al-Jandal governorate within the Al-Jawf Region, the Al-Dar'i Neighborhood stands as a living testament to the ancient history and rich heritage of this region, tracing its roots back to the earliest settlements in Dumat Al-Jandal.

Recent archaeological endeavors have unveiled a trove of historical artifacts, with notable finds including Assyrian pottery dating back to the 8th century BC and layers from the Nabatean period spanning the 1st century BC to the 1st century AD. This wealth of archaeological evidence attests to the enduring human presence in this locale, spanning the early Islamic era and subsequent historical periods. Al-Dar'i Neighborhood stands out as one of the oldest districts in Dumat Al-Jandal and the broader Al-Jawf Region. Near, one finds a cluster of farms, the regional museum, and the historic palace of the emirate.

Boasting five entrances, the southern gateway leads to significant landmarks such as the Omar Bin Al-Khattab mosque, the Marid Castle, and the local market. Meanwhile, the eastern and western entrances provide access to a network of farms and residential neighborhoods, contributing to the neighborhood's interconnected layout.

Covering an expanse of approximately 30,000 square meters, the Al-Dar'i Neighborhood comprises over 40 stone houses, some reaching up to three floors, though most are of a two-story design. These structures are erected upon the foundations of ancient edifices, and the interconnected narrow alleys weave through the neighborhood, fostering a sense of community and connectivity.

Beyond its architectural charm, the Al-Dar'i Neighborhood serves as a reflection of the profound cultural and historical heritage embedded in the Al-Jawf Region. Renowned as one of the Kingdom's most culturally affluent areas, Al-Jawf boasts a wealth of Islamic, Thamudic, Nabatean, and Roman sites, complemented by an array of writings, drawings, and inscriptions that contribute to the rich tapestry of this historical landscape.
