JEDDAH — The women's football team of the Al-Ittihad Club has signed Ashleigh Plumptre, a star defender from the English team Leicester City and a significant participant in the most recent Women's World Cup.
Through their women's sports account on the "X" platform, Al-Ittihad announced the agreement with the caption "Ashleigh Plumptre joins the Tigresses."
As Al-Ittihad is ready to begin their Women's Football League campaign on October 13, this signing adds a lot to their lineup. Before electing to play for Nigeria, Plumptre brought a plethora of experience to English football, having played for the England youth national team.
Plumptre posted on her social media accounts about her enthusiasm and appreciation for joining the Al-Ittihad women's team, writing: "I am grateful for joining Al-Ittihad's women's team and am excited to start this journey alongside amazing human beings."
"Connecting has always been a big part of football for me, not just with myself but also with those around me, my teammates, and the entire staff," says the player.
"Everything I've done throughout my career has always been about representing something bigger than myself," the former English Leicester City player continued, highlighting how "joining Al-Ittihad provides me with numerous opportunities both on and off the field to get to know football in Saudi Arabia."
I didn't come here with any expectations," she replied when asked about women's football in Saudi Arabia. As a football player and, more importantly, as a person, I came here to be myself and fully benefit from the surroundings. I am eager to begin this new phase and look forward to what the women's squad at Al-Ittihad can accomplish.
Ashleigh Plumptre, a 25-year-old national team player, was instrumental in advancing Nigeria to the Round of 16 of the most recent Women's World Cup. She also has a lot of experience with Leicester City, an English team.
