Situated approximately 60 kilometers west of Saudi Rafha, the Al-Sahla area stands as a mesmerizing landscape adorned with captivating sedimentary rock formations and an array of archaeological fossils that capture the imagination of every visitor.
Over the course of hundreds of years, these formations have evolved into some of the most notable attractions in the region, showcasing a distinctive natural heritage.
Abdulrahman Mohammed Al-Tuwaijri, an archaeologist and heritage researcher in Rafha, shared with the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the Al-Sahla area harbors fossilized seashells dating back thousands of years. Notably, marine sediments uncovered in one of the natural slopes suggest that the region was once a thriving lake or riverbed abundant with water.
Al-Tuwaijri highlighted the diverse sizes, shapes, and structures of the fossilized seashells found in the area, serving as a genuine reflection of their original marine environment. These spiral-formed seashells provide a tangible link to a bygone era, tracing their age back thousands of years.
