AlUla, December 13, 2023, AlUla Moments is set to host the inaugural editions of the Tent Pegging World Championship in Traditional Sport Dress and the AlUla Horseback Archery World Cup from December 16 to 18 at the AlFursan Equestrian Village. The events, organized in collaboration with various international federations, align with AlUla's commitment to becoming a hub for premier sporting events, offering diverse attractions for visitors and locals alike.
Ziad Al-Suhaibani, Head of the Sports Executive Program at the Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU), highlighted the significance of these events, stating that they add to AlUla's appeal as a global sports and entertainment destination. The competitions draw on the history of equestrianism in Saudi Arabia and the region, showcasing a fusion of Arabian tradition, indigenous expertise, and the natural beauty of the landscape.
The Horseback Archery and Tent Pegging competitions, based on Furusiyya Arts, involve ancient equestrian arts cultivated by diverse cultures worldwide. Horseback Archery sees archers navigate a 99-meter course, shooting arrows at targets of varying distances, while Tent Pegging involves riders galloping along a 99-meter track, picking up targets from the ground with speed and precision.
The tournaments will feature teams from countries such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Jordan, Russia, Germany, South Africa, Iraq, the USA, Turkey, Iran, Syria, Kazakhstan, Canada, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Thailand. The events mark a significant expansion in AlUla's equestrian and sporting events calendar, aligning with the region's transformation into a leading global destination for cultural and natural heritage.
Other upcoming equestrian events in AlUla include the Richard Mille AlUla Desert Polo in January 2024 and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Endurance Cup in February 2024. Tickets for the Tent Pegging/Horseback Archery events are available online, with general admission prices starting at SAR 30 for a single day and VIP options also offered.
