AlUla, October 17, 2024 – The Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has proudly launched its inaugural Annual Sustainability Report, reflecting its steadfast commitment to responsible development across environmental, cultural, social, and economic dimensions. This comprehensive report serves as a testament to the commission's dedication to transparency and alignment with broader sustainability frameworks, including the Saudi Green Initiative, Vision 2030, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
The report details significant achievements that underscore AlUla's evolution into a model of sustainable development. Notably, the commission has raised AlUla’s heritage sustainability index to an impressive 75%, signifying its effective stewardship of the region's rich cultural and historical assets. Additionally, the report highlights a remarkable 96% visitor satisfaction rate across various sites, showcasing the success of RCU's efforts in enhancing the visitor experience.
Education and community engagement have also been focal points for the RCU. The commission has provided an impressive 747 university scholarships across 117 international institutions, reflecting its commitment to fostering future leaders. Furthermore, a notable 90% community satisfaction rate indicates strong local support for the RCU’s initiatives and programs.
The economic impact of the RCU's activities is equally noteworthy, with the creation of over 6,000 jobs in tourism-related sectors and more than 1,500 jobs specifically within tourism itself. These efforts contribute significantly to the local economy, promoting sustainable job creation and enhancing the region's attractiveness as a tourist destination.
On the environmental front, RCU is actively pursuing climate neutrality through a series of innovative initiatives. These include the promotion of green mobility solutions, the conversion of agricultural waste into organic fertilizers, and the expansion of water distribution networks, achieving an impressive 95% coverage. Furthermore, the commission has planted over 111,000 trees in protected areas, reinforcing its commitment to preserving and enhancing AlUla’s natural landscapes.
