Caravans transporting frankincense, spices, and gold along this route also carried cultural knowledge and traditions. AlUla, strategically located between southern Arabia and the Levant, thrived under the Nabataean rule as a key commercial and cultural center, with the Hegra area showcasing its grandeur.
The Incense Road was not just a trade route but also a channel for cultural exchange, deeply influencing the civilizations it connected.
As AlUla gains recognition as a historical tourist destination, efforts to revive its legacy are in progress, with cultural events and projects emphasizing the role of the Incense Road, especially through AlUla Old Town, in shaping the region’s history.
