Cairo, October 09, 2023, Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, the Assistant Secretary General and Supervisor of the Media and Communication Sector at the Arab League, has called for the reinforcement of regional collaboration to establish an Arab strategy for artificial intelligence (AI). This strategy would be built upon the exchange of expertise and the utilization of smart applications, with the ultimate goal of enhancing productive capabilities and expediting sustainable development. These efforts align with national priorities and the fundamental ethical principles of humanity.
Ambassador Khattabi made these remarks during his address at the inauguration of the "Language and Communication Research Lab Forum," an event organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, marking its second iteration. In his speech, he emphasized the critical importance of focusing on AI and the necessity of crafting educational programs to equip students with the technical and digital skills required for the evolving job market.
He underscored that AI is currently a driving force behind intense technical competition among major global powers and digital corporations. Simultaneously, it raises significant concerns, encompassing legal, ethical, and ideological dimensions. These concerns revolve around the responsible use of AI, touching upon matters such as human rights, protection of personal data, cybercrime, and the potential dangers posed by intelligent weaponry.
