Geneva, September 21, 2023, At the 54th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Ambassador Abdulmohsen bin Khothaila, the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to the UN and international organizations in Geneva, read a joint statement on the international action for sustainable water resources on behalf of 70 nations. The declaration praised the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's initiative to create a Global Water Organization on the orders of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, with the goal of fostering knowledge sharing, innovation, research, and development in the management of water resources. The UN resolutions to intensify efforts aimed at achieving sustainable development of water resources were also mentioned in the statement. He stressed the significance of water in achieving sustainable development and other important social, environmental, and economic goals. He also mentioned the global water crisis and the rising global demand for water sources to meet human, economic, and environmental needs.
The UN Human Rights Commissioner, for his part, urged all stakeholders to work together and coordinate the required steps to provide access to safe water resources.
