Jeddah, January 30, 2025 – The historic ship Amerigo Vespucci has attracted thousands of visitors from various backgrounds during its recent stop at the Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina. This event took place from January 27 to 30 as part of a global tour designed to highlight Italy's cultural heritage and promote maritime sustainability. The ship, a symbol of Italian maritime history, has become an educational and cultural experience for many.


Visitors expressed their admiration for this remarkable vessel to the Saudi Press Agency. Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, one of the attendees, described his experience as unique and enriching. He felt that visiting the ship provided him with a deep insight into a vibrant part of Italian culture. Noha Al-Harbi mentioned that it was a valuable chance to expose her children to new cultures. She highlighted how educational and entertaining the experience was for her family.


Crew member Antonio DeSimone shared his thoughts on the blending of Jeddah’s modern atmosphere with its rich heritage. He noted that the enthusiasm of the visitors made the crew feel welcomed and at home. Italian visitor Maria Rossi praised the ship's role in representing Italy's maritime heritage. She appreciated the hospitality shown to the crew during their time in Jeddah, noting the warmth of the local people.


Gilda Ortega, a visitor from the Philippines, commented on how her visit allowed her to explore Italy’s maritime history in a way she had never experienced before. Meanwhile, Mohammad Ashraf from India stressed the ship's importance as part of a global maritime legacy. He viewed it as a bridge for cultural exchange that connects different nations and peoples.


Launched in 1930, the Amerigo Vespucci is one of the oldest and most celebrated sailing ships in Italy. It currently serves as a training vessel for the Italian Navy. The ship carries a storied history, having undertaken numerous global voyages. Each journey helps introduce people to Italy’s rich maritime culture and fosters international cultural exchange.
