Antiquities Association Continues Its Role to Enhance in the Archaeology Sector

Riyadh, October 17, 2024 – The Antiquities Association, a non-profit cultural organization, is poised to enhance its pivotal role in Saudi Arabia's archaeology sector, aligning its activities with a clear vision and mission dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Kingdom's rich cultural heritage. Under the leadership of Dr. Saad Al-Rashid, the association’s Board of Directors, comprising esteemed experts in the field, has adopted a comprehensive range of high-quality programs and initiatives aimed at advancing its goals.

Dr. Al-Rashid emphasized the association's commitment to supporting active entities within the archaeology sector, fostering cooperation and communication among practitioners while prioritizing their interests. He stated, “The association forms a professional group for specialists in the field of archaeology in the Kingdom. It works to enhance best practices and contributes to the development of policies and legislation that preserve and highlight the Kingdom's unique cultural identity. Additionally, it raises awareness of the importance of the archaeology sector.”

The Antiquities Association recognizes the critical role that antiquities play in shaping civilization and culture, viewing them as invaluable resources for national development. The association’s vision focuses on developing the archaeology sector and excelling in disseminating knowledge about Saudi Arabia's ancient heritage, both locally and internationally. Its mission involves enhancing the archaeology sector through significant contributions to research, providing knowledge and expertise to practitioners, and leveraging scientific and professional capabilities to promote the Kingdom's archaeological treasures on a global stage.

The association's strategic framework is built around six primary goals:

1. Developing best practice standards within the archaeology sector.

2. Influencing legislation and policies that reflect the sector’s interests.

3. Improving the prospects for professionals through education, training, and networking opportunities.

4. Conducting awareness campaigns and events that underscore the importance of cultural heritage.

5. Expanding the membership base and engaging with international associations.

6. Recognizing talents within the sector through certificates, awards, and essential support.

To achieve these objectives, the association has organized its work into four key areas: enhancing the archaeology sector through best practices and international networking; supporting professionals by providing resources for career advancement; influencing legislation that benefits the sector; and raising public awareness about the cultural sector to empower archaeology professionals in making a positive societal impact.

The Board of Directors has also approved an executive plan outlining strategic programs and projects for the upcoming period. Initiatives include creating a comprehensive database of professionals in the archaeology sector, facilitating the issuance of licenses, joining international organizations, establishing a digital library, providing professional academic training, producing a guidance manual, and organizing regional seminars on antiquities. Additionally, the association will publish a quarterly archaeological journal and participate in the AlUla World Archaeology Summit to foster knowledge exchange and cultural dialogue among sector professionals.

As a non-profit cultural organization, the Antiquities Association is committed to contributing to the development of the archaeology sector through its innovative initiatives and strategic projects. Its efforts align closely with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals in cultural, artistic, and social dimensions. The association warmly encourages all professionals and individuals interested in archaeology to join its membership, fostering a professional community that unites diverse voices and expertise in the preservation and celebration of Saudi Arabia's archaeological heritage.
