Arab League HQ hosted the second anti-corruption convention session

Cairo, September 27, 2023, The headquarters of the Arab League played host to the second session of the Implementation Review Group of the Arab Convention against Corruption, a significant gathering that took place recently. This session, overseen by Mohammed Al-Dakhil, Director General of the General Department of International and Regional Agreements at the Oversight and Anti-Corruption Authority (Nazaha), drew the participation of representatives from anti-corruption agencies across Arab states.


In the aftermath of the session, Maha Bakhit, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at the Arab League, underscored the meeting's role in tracking the implementation of the Arab Convention against Corruption. This vital convention, signed in 2010 and endorsed by the Councils of Arab Ministers of Justice and Interior, aims to combat corruption effectively.


During the session, a wide array of topics was discussed, including the recommendations stemming from the initial session. Bakhit commended the unwavering commitment of the Arab League's General Secretariat to combat corruption, recognizing its detrimental impact on the development of Arab nations. She also highlighted the readiness of Arab states to participate in the upcoming tenth session of the UN Convention against Corruption, scheduled to convene in December 2023 in Georgia, USA. This proactive stance underscores the collective determination to combat corruption on both regional and international fronts.
