On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Arab League has underscored its unwavering commitment to supporting individuals with disabilities in the Gaza Strip. The organization expressed deep concern over the escalating numbers of disabilities resulting from Israel's aggression against the region.
In an official statement, the General Secretariat of the Arab League (Social Affairs Sector) condemned Israel's inhumane actions, which have led to a tragic toll of casualties, injuries, and disabilities in Gaza. Accurate statistics remain elusive due to challenges in accessing and providing necessary interventions.
Highlighting the importance of adhering to international human rights conventions, particularly those addressing the rights of individuals with disabilities, the Arab League emphasized the significance of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The organization also stressed its alignment with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, aiming to facilitate the implementation of the Second Arab Decade for Persons with Disabilities (2023-2032), as endorsed during the 32nd Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia.
