Arab Parliament condemns Argentina's plan to move embassy to Jerusalem

Cairo, Feb 8, 2024, The Arab Parliament has strongly denounced Argentine President Javier Milei's declaration of intent to transfer his nation's embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, terming it a move deemed as provocative and in direct contravention of established international norms.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the pan-Arab legislative body unequivocally rejected Milei's announcement, characterizing it as a blatant transgression of international law and resolutions of international legitimacy. Moreover, the Parliament asserted that such a decision represents a grave infringement upon the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

Located in Cairo, the Arab Parliament emphasized the detrimental impact such a shift would have on the prospects of a two-state solution, warning that it could embolden the Israeli occupation and extremist settler movements to perpetuate further aggression against Palestinians and sacred sites in occupied Jerusalem.

Furthermore, the Parliament urged President Milei to reconsider his decision and align with the position held by several South American nations, which advocate for the rightful establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as its recognized capital.
