Cairo, March 14, 2024, The Arab Parliament has issued a call to action urging the international community to intensify efforts in combating Islamophobia, which poses a growing threat to Muslim communities worldwide.
In a statement released today by Arab Parliament Speaker Adel Al-Asoomi, on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Islamophobia observed on March 15, the need to foster tolerance and acceptance was underscored. The statement emphasized the importance of nurturing a culture that celebrates diversity while vehemently rejecting all forms of discrimination.
Al-Asoomi emphasized the imperative of challenging negative stereotypes and countering attempts to distort the image of Islam and Muslims, particularly those falsely linking them to terrorism. It was reiterated that terrorism is a global menace not confined to any specific nationality or religion. Moreover, the recent trend of unfairly associating Islam with terrorism has exacerbated hatred and prejudice against Muslims.
In this light, the Arab Parliament calls for concerted efforts on a global scale to combat Islamophobia and promote understanding, respect, and mutual acceptance among all communities. It underscores the urgency of fostering dialogue and cooperation to confront this pressing challenge and safeguard the rights and dignity of Muslim populations worldwide.
