Riyadh, Sep 5, 2023, The International Day of Charity, observed annually on September 5, to encourage the ideas of social responsibility and volunteerism, and to transform charitable work into a culture and behavior ingrained in societies, was commemorated by the General Secretariat of the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross Organization (ARCO), along with the rest of the world. Dr. Saleh bin Hamad Al-Tuwaijri, the secretary-general of ARCO, emphasized the value of charity and how it can help lift those in need out of misery and poverty and into the best conditions possible. It can also preserve human dignity and improve living conditions, promote volunteerism, giving, and tolerance, carry out health care initiatives, fortify social ties, and encourage communities to help one another. According to Al-Tuwaijri, philanthropic activity improves societal resilience, lessens the harm caused by humanitarian crises, and supports public services in the areas of health care, education, housing, and child protection.
The UN General Assembly proclaimed September 5 as International Charity Day in 2012 with the goal of promoting awareness and inspiring individuals and non-governmental organizations to assist others via volunteer work and philanthropic endeavors.
