The club stated that Mourinho and his coaching staff would be leaving with immediate effect, marking a notable change in the team's management.
The owners of AS Roma, Dan, and Ryan Friedkin, expressed their gratitude to Mourinho for his dedication and passion during his tenure with the club. In a statement, they said, "We would like to thank Jose on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club."
While acknowledging the positive moments, including winning the 2022 UEFA Europa Conference League and reaching the Europa League final in the previous season, the Friedkins emphasized the need for a change. They noted, "We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club," and extended their best wishes to Mourinho for his future endeavors.
Jose Mourinho began his journey with Roma in May 2021, and under his leadership, the club experienced both success and challenges. Currently, AS Roma holds the ninth position in Serie A, Italy's top-tier league, with 29 points from 20 matches, trailing significantly behind league leaders Inter Milan, who have accumulated 51 points.
The 60-year-old Portuguese coach, Mourinho, boasts a decorated career, having managed several high-profile clubs, including Porto, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid.
