Asaan Museum Bridges Past & Future
On May 19, 2025—coinciding with International Museum Day—Saudi Arabia broke ground on a visionary new cultural landmark: Asaan, the Misk Heritage Museum, located in Diriyah, the historic heart of the Kingdom.
Led by the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk), and designed by the globally renowned Zaha Hadid Architects, Asaan will span 40,000 square meters and serve as a dynamic living museum that celebrates Saudi heritage, identity, and creativity.
More than a building, Asaan is an experience. It will bring to life traditional arts, crafts, oral histories, and social customs, using cutting-edge architecture inspired by Najdi design. The museum blends modern elegance with historical authenticity—serving as a physical and cultural bridge between the past and the future.
Khaled Al-Saqer, CEO of Asaan, shared that the museum’s mission goes beyond preservation. It’s about engaging Saudi youth, nurturing a living connection with their heritage, and ensuring Saudi identity evolves in tandem with technology.
Asaan will feature a heritage conservation lab, educational programs, and training spaces to empower the next generation of museum professionals. It will also act as a hub for knowledge exchange, supporting Vision 2030’s goals for cultural leadership and societal enrichment.
Saudi Arabia continues to set international benchmarks by integrating design, identity, and global collaboration. With Asaan, the Kingdom is once again making a bold statement: the future of museums belongs to people, and their stories.
