Asia stocks rise, AP reports

Beijing, March 12, 2024, According to the latest report from the Associated Press, shares across Asia mostly saw gains on Tuesday.

In Japan, the Nikkei 225 experienced a marginal decline of less than 0.1%, settling at 38,797.51.

Chinese markets exhibited mixed performance, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng surging by 3.2% to reach 17,124.19, while the Shanghai Composite index dipped by 0.4%, closing at 3,055.94.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index inched up by 0.1% to reach 7,712.50, while South Korea's Kospi index recorded a solid advance of 0.8%, closing at 2,681.81.

In commodities trading, US benchmark crude oil witnessed a modest increase of 25 cents, trading at $78.18 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in electronic trading. On the previous day, it had declined by 8 cents to $77.93 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose by 33 cents to settle at $83.54 per barrel.

The US dollar strengthened slightly against the yen, trading at 147.41 yen compared to 146.95 yen previously. Similarly, the euro saw a minor uptick, rising to $1.0937 from $1.0927.
