Chinese markets exhibited mixed performance, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng surging by 3.2% to reach 17,124.19, while the Shanghai Composite index dipped by 0.4%, closing at 3,055.94.
Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index inched up by 0.1% to reach 7,712.50, while South Korea's Kospi index recorded a solid advance of 0.8%, closing at 2,681.81.
In commodities trading, US benchmark crude oil witnessed a modest increase of 25 cents, trading at $78.18 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange in electronic trading. On the previous day, it had declined by 8 cents to $77.93 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent crude, the global benchmark, rose by 33 cents to settle at $83.54 per barrel.
The US dollar strengthened slightly against the yen, trading at 147.41 yen compared to 146.95 yen previously. Similarly, the euro saw a minor uptick, rising to $1.0937 from $1.0927.
