Asian markets showed varied performance, per The Associated Press report

Bangkok, October 04, 2023, Asian markets exhibited a mixed performance on Wednesday, as reported by The Associated Press. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 index experienced a notable decline of 2.3%, settling at 30,526.88, while South Korea's Kospi followed suit, dropping by 2.4% to 2,405.69. Hong Kong's Hang Seng saw a 1.3% dip, closing at 17,115.62. In Australia, the S&P/ASX 200 lost 0.8%, ending the day at 6,890.20. Conversely, Bangkok's SET index managed to recover from early losses and recorded a modest gain of 0.4%.


In the oil market, the price of a benchmark U.S. crude barrel experienced a decrease of 43 cents, reaching $88.80 per barrel during electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It had previously risen by 41 cents, closing at $89.23. Meanwhile, Brent crude, the international standard, declined by 40 cents, settling at $90.52 per barrel.


Currency-wise, the dollar strengthened against the Japanese yen, rising to 149.22 yen from 149.04 yen. Conversely, the euro weakened, falling to $1.0460 from its previous position at $1.0468.
