Asian shares rise; Australia's ASX 200 up 0.2%, Korea's Kospi 0.5%

Tokyo, March 13, 2024, According to the AP, Asian shares mostly saw gains on Wednesday.

Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index rose by 0.2% to reach 7,729.40. Korea's Kospi index also experienced an increase of nearly 0.5%, reaching 2,694.60. However, Japan’s benchmark Nikkei 225 index lost its morning gains, slipping by 0.3% in afternoon trading to 3,054.28.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index edged up by 0.5% to 17,183.94, while the Shanghai Composite index remained virtually unchanged, experiencing a slight decrease of less than 0.1% at 3,054.28.

In energy markets, benchmark US crude oil added 62 cents to trade at $78.18 per barrel. Similarly, Brent crude, the international standard, also rose by 62 cents to $82.54 per barrel.

As for currency trading, the US dollar slightly declined against the Japanese yen, reaching 147.54 yen from 147.63 yen. Meanwhile, the euro inched up to $1.0931 from $1.0930.
