Japan's key index, the Nikkei 225, surged by 1.0% to reach 38,300.49 during afternoon trading. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 also saw gains, rising by 0.2% to 7,655.60. South Korea's Kospi index added 0.5% to reach 2,700.82. However, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index dipped slightly by 0.2% to 17,709.57, and China's Shanghai Composite fell by 0.2% to 3,105.64.
In terms of energy markets, benchmark US crude oil decreased by 26 cents to $82.37 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent crude, the global benchmark, also saw a decline of 16 cents, settling at $88.24 per barrel.
Regarding currency exchange rates, the US dollar strengthened against the Japanese yen, rising to 156.72 yen from 156.28 yen. Conversely, the euro weakened slightly, costing $1.0704 compared to $1.0725 previously.
