The Shanghai Composite index dropped by 1.4% to 3,013.84, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 1.9%, closing at 16,279.66. Tokyo's Nikkei 225 also suffered a notable fall of 2.1%, settling at 38,402.59. Similarly, South Korea's Kospi witnessed a 2.3% decline to 2,609.13, and Australia's S&P/ASX 200 dipped by 2% to 7,595.30.
Meanwhile, in the oil market, the price of a barrel of US crude for May delivery saw an increase of 48 cents, reaching $85.89, as per electronic trading data from the New York Mercantile Exchange. Brent crude, the global benchmark, also rose by 48 cents to $90.58 per barrel.
In currency trading, the dollar strengthened against the yen, rising to 154.33 yen from the previous rate of 154.27 yen. Conversely, the euro weakened, slipping to $1.0613 compared to its earlier rate of $1.0626.
