Asian stocks show mixed performance, with gains in Japan and Australia

Tokyo, November 02, 2023, According to The Associated Press, Asian stock markets displayed a mixed performance on Thursday. Japan's Nikkei 225 index posted a notable gain of 1.1%, reaching 31,950.61 points. Meanwhile, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 index surged by 0.9% to 6,899.70 points, and South Korea's Kospi index saw a substantial increase of 1.8%, reaching 2,341.96 points.


In contrast, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index recorded a 0.9% rise, closing at 17,246.87 points, while the Shanghai Composite index experienced a slight dip of 0.3%, settling at 3,015.33 points.


In the realm of oil prices, the benchmark U.S. crude oil registered an increase of 78 cents, reaching $81.22 per barrel, and Brent crude, the international standard, saw a rise of 76 cents to reach $85.39 per barrel.


Regarding currency exchange rates, the U.S. dollar exhibited a decrease against the Japanese yen, with the rate falling to 150.45 yen from the previous 150.96 yen. Meanwhile, the euro strengthened, with the exchange rate climbing to $1.0600 from the earlier $1.0570.
