Doha, December 24, 2024 — The Saudi weightlifting team continued its impressive performance at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, held in Doha, Qatar, by securing four medals: one gold and three bronze.
Saudi weightlifter Mohammed Al-Zouri won the Kingdom's first gold medal at the championship in the 81 kg clean and jerk competition. Al-Zouri not only clinched the gold in the clean and jerk but also earned a bronze medal in the overall competition after lifting 134 kg in the snatch and 172 kg in the clean and jerk, totaling 306 points. His exceptional performance in both the snatch and clean and jerk events was a key factor in his success, showcasing his strength and technique at the highest level.
Weightlifter Mohammed Al-Hilaiou won the second bronze medal for Saudi Arabia in the 73 kg category. Al-Hilaiou lifted 131 kg in the snatch and 166 kg in the clean and jerk, with a total of 297 points. His dedication and consistency throughout the competition helped him secure a spot on the podium and added another medal to the Kingdom's tally.
Weightlifter Yousef Al-Madarham claimed the third bronze medal for Saudi Arabia after lifting 146 kg in the 81 kg category. His powerful performance in this highly competitive weight class contributed to the Kingdom’s overall success at the championship.
On the first day of the championship, the Saudi team had already secured six medals, with weightlifter Aqeel Al-Jassem earning two silver medals and one bronze, and weightlifter Abdullah Al-Muhaimid winning three bronze medals. The team's strong start to the competition highlighted their depth of talent and determination to succeed on the international stage.
