ZATCA successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt at Al-Batha Land Port, seizing 2,991,342 Captagon pills hidden in a shipment labeled as "LED lighting products."

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – January 18, 2025 – The Zakat, Tax, and Customs Authority (ZATCA) has successfully intercepted a large-scale narcotics smuggling operation at the Al-Batha Land Port, foiling an attempt to bring over 2.9 million Captagon pills into the Kingdom. The illicit drugs were hidden within a shipment that was falsely declared as "LED lighting products." This discovery underscores ZATCA’s ongoing vigilance in protecting Saudi Arabia’s borders from illegal trafficking and preserving the safety and security of its society.

The operation, which was part of routine customs procedures, involved a combination of advanced security techniques and thorough physical inspections. ZATCA officers meticulously examined the shipment and uncovered the hidden narcotics, which were concealed among the supposed legitimate goods. The authorities also coordinated closely with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control, leading to the identification and apprehension of two individuals who were set to receive the illegal shipment within the Kingdom.

ZATCA reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to maintaining strict control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports, emphasizing its determination to thwart smuggling efforts and combat illegal trafficking of narcotics. The authority’s proactive efforts are part of a broader strategy to safeguard public health and uphold national security. ZATCA stressed that it remains fully prepared to detect and prevent any attempt to smuggle illicit goods into the Kingdom, ensuring that those who attempt such illegal activities are swiftly caught and prosecuted.

In addition to the successful interception, ZATCA called on the public to remain actively involved in combating smuggling. The authority urged citizens and residents to report any suspicious activities or violations of the customs laws. ZATCA has set up multiple channels for the public to confidentially share information, including the designated security reporting hotline at 1910, via email at [email protected], or through the international contact number 009661910. The authority assures that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality, and a financial reward will be given to those who provide accurate information leading to the seizure of smuggled goods.

This successful interception highlights the critical role of customs enforcement in ensuring that Saudi Arabia’s borders remain secure and free from the dangers of illegal narcotics. It also reflects the Kingdom’s broader efforts to curb drug trafficking, with a clear message that any attempt to compromise national security and public safety will be met with determined and decisive action. Through continuous vigilance and public cooperation, ZATCA remains steadfast in its mission to protect the Kingdom and its citizens from the harmful effects of smuggling and drug-related crimes.
