New Delhi, August 03, 2024, At least 11 people have lost their lives due to heavy rain across different parts of northern India today, with over 250 individuals reported missing in the Himalayan region.
The India Meteorological Department recorded 183 mm of rain in the past 24 hours in Dharamshala town in Himachal Pradesh state.
"More than 50 people are missing after heavy rain lashed the state capital Shimla and its surrounding areas," State Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukho said, adding that rescue operations are underway.
Residents of the capital have experienced a series of extreme weather events in the past few months, ranging from scorching high temperatures to flooding and heavy rain that have resulted in some building collapses.
