At the 2024 Asian Weightlifting Championships, two Saudi weightlifters take home six medals.

Aqeel Al-Jassem's Performance: Aqeel Al-Jassem secured two silver medals (snatch, 121 kg and total score, 268 points) and one bronze (clean and jerk, 147 kg) in the junior 61 kg category at the 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships in Doha.

Doha, December 22, 2024 – In a remarkable display of strength and skill, Saudi weightlifters Aqeel Al-Jassem and Abdullah Al-Muhaimid secured a total of six medals at the prestigious 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, which took place in Doha, Qatar. The competition, which brought together 290 male and female weightlifters from 22 teams across Asia, saw fierce competition and incredible feats of strength, with Al-Jassem and Al-Muhaimid emerging as standout performers for Saudi Arabia.


Aqeel Al-Jassem, competing in the highly competitive junior 61 kg category, made a notable impact by clinching two silver medals and one bronze. His first silver came in the snatch event, where he successfully lifted 121 kg, showcasing his impressive technique and power. Not stopping there, Al-Jassem then added a bronze medal to his tally in the clean and jerk, with a lift of 147 kg, which placed him in a strong position overall. His third medal came in the total score category, where his combined performance earned him an impressive total of 268 points, securing a silver medal and second place in his weight class. This stellar performance not only highlighted Al-Jassem's technical prowess but also demonstrated his consistency and ability to deliver under pressure.


Abdullah Al-Muhaimid, representing Saudi Arabia in the youth 61 kg category, also proved his mettle by earning three bronze medals. His first medal came in the snatch, where he lifted 110 kg with remarkable precision and strength. In the clean and jerk, Al-Muhaimid continued to impress, lifting 137 kg and securing his second bronze. His final bronze medal came in the total score category, where his combined efforts earned him a total of 247 points. These consistent performances marked Al-Muhaimid as a promising talent in the sport, with his results at the championships setting the stage for future successes.


The 2024 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, held in Doha, not only provided a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills but also highlighted the depth of talent emerging across the continent. With 22 teams competing, the event served as a testament to the growing popularity of weightlifting in Asia, offering a glimpse into the future of the sport.
