In a significant milestone for the Kingdom's logistics sector, Prince Saud bin Mishaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region, has officially inaugurated Maersk's largest global logistics investment at Jeddah Islamic Port. This groundbreaking event, held under the patronage of Prince Khalid bin Faisal bin Abdulaziz, Adviser to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Governor of the Makkah Region, marks a major advancement in the Kingdom’s logistics and maritime infrastructure. The total investment for this new logistics zone stands at an impressive SAR 1.3 billion.

The inauguration was attended by a host of distinguished figures, including Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the Saudi Ports Authority, along with other prominent leaders from the Kingdom’s logistics and maritime sectors. Eng. Al-Jasser highlighted that this logistics zone is one of eight such zones at Jeddah Islamic Port that are being launched with private sector investments. This initiative aligns with the strategic goals of the Saudi Ports Authority and the broader transport and logistics system to enhance the efficiency and operational capabilities of Saudi ports through robust partnerships with both national and international players.

Eng. Al-Jasser emphasized that this development is part of a broader strategy to solidify Saudi Arabia's position on the global maritime map and boost the Kingdom's logistical services. He underscored the significant support from the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince in advancing the transport and logistics sector, which is undergoing unprecedented improvements. These advancements include record achievements in international performance indicators, growth in maritime routes, and increased connectivity with global markets.

The new logistics zone at Jeddah Islamic Port, covering 225,000 square meters, will be a hub of efficiency and innovation. It will operate on renewable energy, with 70% of its power generated from solar panels, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainable development. The zone will support various operations, including the storage and distribution of general goods, refrigerated storage for food products, cargo consolidation, less-than-container load (LCL) shipping, and e-commerce fulfillment.

Eng. Al-Jasser also revealed that foreign investment inflows into the port sector have surpassed SAR 10 billion over the past four years. This influx has not only contributed to the Kingdom’s economic growth but has also facilitated knowledge transfer and created over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs.
