Abida Ahmad

The ban aims to prevent the depletion of kingfish species, maintain a healthy strategic supply, and allow breeding to occur during the prohibition period.
Starting from Thursday, August 15, there will be a two-month ban on kingfish catching with gill nets in the Eastern Region's coastlines.

A two-month moratorium on kingfish gill net harvesting will take effect on Thursday, August 15, along the Eastern Region's beaches.

As long as the fish caught is longer than 65 centimeters, kingfish can be fished for using a rod and reel. The prohibition attempts to keep a healthy strategic supply of kingfish intact, avoid the extinction of kingfish species, and permit reproduction to take place while it is in effect.
