In 2023, BMW M GmbH will continue to prioritize expanding its lineup with highly desirable special edition cars. The brand-new BMW M3 CS intensifies the racing attraction that distinguishes the company's popular high-performance vehicles for the premium midsize market. As a result, the BMW M3 CS has a distinct personality and is able to deliver the pure M feeling, which thrills and enthralls over every mile on both the road and the track.
A 550-horsepower six-cylinder in-line engine, an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, and the M xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system are the components of the powertrain idea for the next BMW M3 CS. With this configuration, 0 to 100 km/h takes 3.4 seconds. The BMW M3 CS has an electronically regulated peak speed of 302 km/h and comes standard with the M Driver's Package. From March 2023, a small batch of the new BMW M3 CS will be produced at the BMW Group Plant in Munich, with a phased rollout beginning the following month.
More power, less weight, compelling performance.
The new BMW M3 CS has attractive performance characteristics thanks to a higher power-to-weight ratio. Its high-revving six-cylinder in-line engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology, which was created for the BMW M3 and BMW M4 models, is improved specifically for this vehicle.
Therefore, the engine under the hood of the new BMW M3 CS also features a multitude of technology components that were directly adapted from the race-car component. Because of its sleeve-free, closed-deck design and great rigidity, the crankcase can withstand very high combustion pressures. Due to the cylinder head's 3D-printed core, it is possible to route the coolant ducts in a way that optimizes temperature control, which is not possible when using traditional metal casting techniques. Both the cooling system and the oil supply system are built to withstand the unique difficulties of track use.
Straight-six engine produces 550 hp.
Due to the unit's significant upgrade potential, the maximum output was increased by 40 horsepower to 550 horsepower when compared to the BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive. The connection between the power unit and the vehicle's chassis is also made very stiff by a specifically designed engine mounting with higher spring rates. Therefore, pressing the accelerator results in an even greater response from the engine and a direct transfer of power to the drivetrain. Peak torque of 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) is available from just 2,750 rpm and is maintained all the way to 5,950 rpm thanks to the engine in the new BMW M3 CS.
The dual-branch exhaust system, which has electrically controlled flaps, a titanium rear silencer with a weight-saving design, and, in typical M form, two pairs of tailpipes painted in matte black, creates an affecting soundscape to go along with this. When the engine setting is set to SPORT or SPORT+ in the M Setup menu, the drive sound is amplified to generate a tune with unmistakable racing car undertones.
Lightweight construction with extensive use of carbon fibre; improved body rigidity.
Extensive, model-specific lightweight design measures are crucial in shaping the new BMW M3 CS's performance capabilities and exclusive personality. Here, it is crucial to use both interior and exterior carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. The lightweight, high-tech material is also used in the special edition model's bonnet, front splitter, front air intakes, external mirror caps, rear diffuser, and rear spoiler, in addition to its use for the roof. Additionally made from CFRP are its center console, steering wheel shift paddles, and interior trim strips. Additionally, the M Carbon bucket seats that come standard in the interior help reduce cabin weight. Meanwhile, the titanium rear silencer reduces the weight of the exhaust system used on the new BMW M3 CS by more than 4 kg. The weight of the BMW M3 Competition Sedan with M xDrive is reduced by around 20 kg overall thanks to the various lightweight design measures.
Exclusive design features promise thrilling performance.
With a number of distinctive design elements, the new BMW M3 CS immediately proclaims its more angular personality. The newest special-edition model from BMW M GmbH is the only one to offer the exterior Frozen Solid White metallic paint finish. A remarkable contrast to the new paint finish is created by the exposed carbon-fiber surfaces on the top, the two indents chiseled into the bonnet, the front splitter, front air intakes, M external mirror caps, rear spoiler, and rear apron, as well as the black side skirts and M gills. Alternative exterior colors are Signal Green solid, Brooklyn Grey metallic, and Sapphire Black metallic.
