March 27, 2025 - Cadillac is reportedly planning to phase out its internal combustion engine (ICE) sedans—the CT4 and CT5—and replace them with all-electric models. This information comes from GM Authority, which suggests that Cadillac will not create direct successors for these sedans. Unfortunately, this also means the Blackwing versions of the cars will be discontinued. SOB
Electric Replacements in the Works
Cadillac is currently testing electric options that are likely to match the size and class of the current CT5—and even the now-discontinued CT6.
Rumors indicate that the new electric models could feature a sportback design, inspired by Cadillac's innovative concepts like the Escala and the ultra-luxurious Celestiq. These models are expected to utilize an upgraded version of GM’s BEV3 platform, known as BEV Prime.
Electrification Strategy and Sales Targets
This move is part of Cadillac’s broader electrification strategy. The company has set ambitious goals, aiming for electric vehicles to make up 30 to 35 percent of its total sales by 2025—an impressive jump from 18 percent in 2024.
Cadillac’s expanding EV lineup already includes the Lyriq and Celestiq, with future models like the Escalade IQ, Vistiq, and the more affordable Optiq expected to further enhance its electric offerings.
Market Impact and Future Outlook
Despite a slowdown in overall EV adoption across the industry, Cadillac remains committed to shifting from internal combustion engines to electric powertrains. The discontinuation of the CT4 and CT5 ICE models marks a major turning point.
Although details about launch schedules and technical specifications for the upcoming electric models are not yet available, industry experts predict that these new EVs will significantly impact Cadillac's position in the luxury automotive market.
