The Saudi Film Commission is launching Saudi Film Nights in China from October 21 to 26, showcasing Saudi films for the first time in Chinese cinemas, following successful events in Morocco and Australia.

Riyadh, October 9, 2024 — The Saudi Film Commission has announced an exciting new initiative: the launch of Saudi Film Nights in China, marking a significant step in promoting Saudi cinema in the world’s largest cinema market. Following the successful execution of similar events in Morocco and Australia, this upcoming series of screenings aims to introduce Chinese audiences to the richness of Saudi storytelling through film.

For the first time, Chinese cinemas will showcase a selection of Saudi films, providing an exclusive opportunity for audiences to experience these cinematic works before their official release in local theatres. Saudi Film Nights are scheduled to take place from October 21 to 26 across major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, and Suzhou. This event will feature a diverse array of content, including feature films, short films, and engaging discussions with filmmakers, offering insights into the creative processes behind the works.

The initiative is expected to attract a wide audience, including prominent figures from the film industry, journalists, film critics, and cinema enthusiasts in China. By fostering dialogue and interaction between Saudi filmmakers and their Chinese counterparts, the Saudi Film Nights aim to create a platform for cultural exchange and collaboration, enhancing mutual understanding between the two nations.

This endeavor is part of the Saudi Film Commission’s broader strategy to drive growth and development within the Saudi film industry. By showcasing local talent on an international stage, the commission seeks to elevate the profile of Saudi cinema, highlighting the narratives and perspectives unique to the region.

As the Saudi film industry continues to gain momentum, initiatives like the Saudi Film Nights in China not only serve to promote Saudi cinema but also strengthen cultural ties between Saudi Arabia and China. With an increasing focus on international collaboration and audience engagement, the commission is committed to positioning Saudi films prominently within the global cinematic landscape. The upcoming film nights represent an important milestone in this journey, paving the way for future opportunities in the realm of film and cultural exchange.
