Riyadh, October 09, 2023, The collaborative efforts of the Oil Sustainability Program (OSP), the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), and the Ministry of Health (MOH) have given rise to a transformative initiative known as "Empowering Africa." This initiative aims to usher in a new era of cleaner energy, enhanced connectivity, improved healthcare services, and advanced education solutions across the African continent.
Building upon the foundation of the Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking Program, a critical component of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI), "Empowering Africa" signifies a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable development and the enhancement of the quality of life for millions of people in Africa.
Led by OSP, MCIT, and MOH, this visionary initiative encompasses the provision of electric cooking stoves, the introduction of essential connectivity solutions, the establishment of e-education platforms, and the delivery of e-health services to underserved rural areas throughout Africa. This multifaceted approach underscores the commitment of Saudi institutions to one of their most ambitious initiatives, one that promises a brighter future for communities across Africa and reflects their unwavering dedication to addressing global challenges.
Launched in 2021 as part of MGI, the Clean Fuel Solutions for Cooking Program has already made significant strides by providing cleaner cooking fuels, including Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), solar power, and biodigesters, to approximately 750 million people worldwide. These solutions hold immense potential in alleviating the dire health risks associated with traditional and hazardous cooking practices, such as the use of coal and wood.
Furthermore, OSP, MCIT, and MOH are poised to unveil additional details about the "Empowering Africa" initiative during COP28, scheduled to take place in Dubai, UAE, in December 2023. This forthcoming announcement is expected to further illuminate the collaborative efforts aimed at advancing sustainability, fostering public engagement, and promoting international regulatory cooperation for a more prosperous and sustainable global future.
