Riyadh, January 20, 2025 – The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance, through its Religious Attaché Office in India, successfully concluded the final qualifiers of the second National Quran Memorization Competition in Sri Lanka. This significant event, held in collaboration with Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Buddhasasana, Religious and Cultural Affairs, and coordinated with the Saudi Embassy in Sri Lanka, drew immense participation, with a total of 400 male and female contestants advancing to the final rounds. These finalists were selected from an impressive pool of 1,900 participants, hailing from 25 provinces across Sri Lanka.

The competition, which began with preliminary rounds on December 28 and 29, 2024, saw an outpouring of enthusiasm and dedication from the Sri Lankan community. The event offered four distinct categories to accommodate participants of varying age groups and memorization levels. These categories included: full memorization of the Holy Quran for contestants aged 15 to 23 years; memorization of the first 10 parts of the Quran for participants aged 12 to 20 years; memorization of the first five parts for those between the ages of 10 and 15 years; and memorization of the last part of the Quran for younger participants aged 7 to 12 years.

The event underscored the importance of preserving and spreading the teachings of the Quran, while also fostering a deep sense of spiritual growth and discipline among the youth. It was also a testament to the strong relationship between Saudi Arabia and Sri Lanka, with the Ministry of Islamic Affairs continuing its efforts to support religious education and development in Muslim communities worldwide. Through such competitions, the Kingdom reinforces its commitment to nurturing future generations of Quran memorization scholars, ensuring that the sacred text is preserved for years to come.

This initiative is part of a broader cultural and religious engagement that aims to strengthen ties between the two nations, particularly in the field of Islamic studies and religious understanding. The success of the competition highlighted the growing interest and dedication to the memorization of the Quran in Sri Lanka, making it a key milestone in the Kingdom’s broader mission to promote Islamic knowledge and education across the globe.
