Riyadh, October 30, 2024 – In a significant development for the Kingdom's digital landscape, the Saudi Communications, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) announced on October 29 that it has granted a license to Aramco Digital, enabling the company to provide specialized wireless telecommunication services. This move represents a pivotal step towards enhancing the telecommunications infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and fostering the adoption of advanced technologies across various sectors.
The newly awarded license empowers Aramco Digital to offer tailored wireless services and applications across a diverse range of industries, including manufacturing, oil and natural gas, petrochemicals, transportation, tourism, and logistics. These specialized services are designed to facilitate the implementation of smart applications, automate operational processes, and support the Internet of Things (IoT) applications that are crucial for connectivity, monitoring, and control. By positioning Saudi Arabia at the forefront of specialized communication services, this initiative aims to enhance the Kingdom's status as a leader in the digital economy.
The formal presentation of the license took place during the Future Investment Initiative (FII) Conference, where CST Governor Dr. Mohammed Altamimi presented the license to Saudi Aramco Chief Executive Eng. Amin H. Nasser. This high-profile event underscores the importance of collaboration between government bodies and leading corporations in driving the nation’s digital transformation agenda.
The introduction of this license is anticipated to create an enabling environment that supports the adoption of emerging technologies within specialized wireless networks. Furthermore, it is expected to promote substantial investments in digital infrastructure, thereby accelerating digital transformation in vital sectors of the Saudi economy. CST had previously announced on June 6 that its board of directors approved Aramco Digital's qualification for obtaining the Specialized Wireless Network Provision License, paving the way for this groundbreaking opportunity.
With this strategic move, Saudi Arabia aims to not only enhance its technological capabilities but also to create a robust ecosystem that fosters innovation and digital advancement across various industries, ultimately contributing to the Kingdom's Vision 2030 objectives.
