Riyadh, August 29, 2024 – The Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST), in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Logistic Services (MOT), has released the Roads Index Report 2024, a comprehensive overview of the performance of telecom services across both major and secondary roads in Saudi Arabia. This report is part of an ongoing effort to boost competitiveness among telecom providers and to ensure the delivery of top-notch services to users throughout the Kingdom.

According to a news release from CST, the updated Roads Index Report now includes a range of indicators for telecom services and internet coverage, as well as metrics on call success rates and internet speeds. It also features a newly introduced quality index specifically for video streaming platforms on roads classified as primary (designated with '11') and secondary (marked as '222'). These enhancements are designed to provide stakeholders with a clearer picture of telecom network performance across the country.

The report highlights impressive coverage levels achieved by telecom providers, revealing that service coverage on Saudi Arabia's primary and secondary roads has reached an exceptional 99%. This remarkable level of coverage reflects the significant efforts made by leading telecommunications providers such as Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Mobily, and Zain, each of which has achieved a 99% coverage rate.

In terms of specific performance metrics, STC led the field with a 98% coverage rate on primary roads, followed closely by Mobily at 94%, and Zain at 82%. On secondary roads, STC once again topped the list with 98% coverage, Mobily was a close second with 97%, and Zain maintained its third-place position with 82%. The Roads Index Report also ranked the telecom providers based on call success rates, with STC achieving the highest success rate of 96% on primary roads, followed by Mobily at 95%, and Zain at 90%. For secondary roads, both STC and Mobily shared the top spot with a 95% call success rate, while Zain followed with an 88% success rate.

The Roads Index Report further revealed data on internet speed performance, showing that STC led in acceptable internet speed samples on primary roads, with an impressive 89%. Mobily came in second with 68%, and Zain was third with 40%. For secondary roads, Mobily claimed the top position with 74%, narrowly edging out STC, which had a 73% success rate, while Zain remained third with 39%.

Additionally, the report introduced a quality index for video streaming platforms, providing a new perspective on service quality beyond traditional telecom metrics. On primary roads, STC was again the leader, scoring 76% in video streaming quality. On secondary roads, both STC and Mobily shared the top position with a score of 77%, demonstrating their commitment to providing high-quality services even in less densely populated areas.

The Roads Index Report 2024 reflects the Saudi government's commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure and ensuring reliable telecom services across the Kingdom. The detailed insights provided in the report will help telecom providers continue to improve their services and better meet the needs of users throughout Saudi Arabia.
