Riyadh, December 06, 2024 – The King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives (Darah) is playing an integral role in the Saudi Manuscripts Exhibition, a significant cultural event organized by the Libraries Commission in Riyadh. The exhibition, which runs from November 28 to December 7, showcases the Kingdom’s rich heritage and underscores its ongoing commitment to preserving, maintaining, and digitizing important historical documents. By offering a platform for displaying these invaluable texts, Darah aims to highlight Saudi Arabia's dedication to safeguarding its cultural legacy and increasing global awareness of the pivotal role manuscripts play in documenting national history.
Darah’s extensive exhibition features over 2,000 manuscripts spanning a diverse array of subjects, including theology, jurisprudence, the interpretation of the Qur'an, Arabic language studies, and various aspects of the Kingdom's history. Among the highlights of the display are rare and ancient copies of the Qur'an, as well as manuscripts that provide profound insights into the Kingdom’s intellectual history, scientific advancements, and cultural traditions. These manuscripts not only represent a key part of the Kingdom’s national identity but also reflect the broad cultural and intellectual richness that has shaped Saudi society for centuries.
In addition to the exhibition itself, Darah is hosting a series of educational events designed to further promote the significance of manuscripts in preserving cultural heritage. These events aim to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving historical records, fostering a deeper understanding of the Kingdom's history, and encouraging future generations to engage with and contribute to the protection of these irreplaceable artifacts. By organizing such initiatives, Darah continues to play a leading role in the Kingdom's efforts to enrich global understanding of Saudi heritage and ensure the longevity of its historical records for future generations.
