Jeddah, February 19, 2024, The exhilarating second round of the "Desert X Prix" race, a thrilling component of the 2024 Extreme E series featuring electric off-road SUVs, concluded today in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Taking place from February 17-18, this event marked its fourth consecutive year in Saudi Arabia, boasting a field of 16 drivers representing eight international teams.
Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdullah bin Faisal, Chairman of the Saudi Automobile and Motorcycle Federation and the Saudi Motorsport Company, had the honor of presenting the first-place trophy to the dynamic duo from the ACCIONA Sainz XE Team, who emerged victorious in a thrilling final race of the electrifying second round.
The winning team, comprised of Spanish racer Laia Sanz and Jamaican driver Fraser McConnell, achieved an impressive race time of 10 minutes and 54 seconds.
Assistant Minister of Sport for Sport Affairs, Adwa Al-Arifi, had the privilege of awarding the first-place team co-owner Carlos Sainz.
Meanwhile, the Andretti Altawkilat Extreme E team secured a commendable second place, trailing by a mere 1.40 seconds, while the Veloce Racing team claimed the third spot with a gap of 4.66 seconds.
Of note, the Rosberg X Racing team secured the fourth place, finishing just 11.02 seconds behind the leaders.
The Extreme E series, comprising a total of five races, is dedicated to raising awareness about the impact of climate change and advocating for the adoption of electric vehicles in motorsport, thereby promoting environmental sustainability and clean energy. These initiatives are fully aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and its ongoing endeavors.
